  • 1 stars out of 5Worst shoe ever!

I had Clarks shoes when I was young as they were deemed the best around. I have therefore purchased Clarks shoes for my two boys with this in mind. Since my eldest started school 4 years ago I have had trouble with Clarks shoes, stitching coming undone, velcro coming away from straps, holes appearing on the soles, all this happening within the first 12 wks I have returned numerous pairs to the point of it getting embarrassing. I have written to Clarks to express my concerns to be told it's unusual and they test the shoes thoroughly. These particular shoes lasted less than 4 weeks before the stitching on the side of the shoe unravelled. I took them back and due to my son's foot size and young age only had the 'choice' of the same shoe. We took them home and this time they lasted 6weeks and the stitching came undone again and the velcro started coming away from the leather strap. I am so disappointed with Clarks shoes and these were by far the worst. Please look at your shoe designs, where the most wear will be in boys shoes and don't skimp on the manufacturing! Feedback from Clarks: Thanks for leaving a review, I'm sorry to hear that you’re unhappy with your purchase. We are of course aware of the effects that a school day may have on our school shoes and they are tested with this in mind. However, the impact that they receive can also have an affect on this. All returns are monitored and this information is used by our design teams to make any improvements in the future. I've logged your comments for feedback to our children's teams. Many thanks.

  • 1 stars out of 5What happened to Clarks quality???

As with the most recent reviewer I too have always bought Clarks shoes for my boys, having spent many hundreds of pounds over the past 15 years of both their lives, since they were both fitted with their very first shoes at Clarks. Over the past few years however, their shoe soles wear through rapidly, develop holes, stitchwork unravels, inner soles crease up, Velcro gives up....all within not many months. Like other reviewers on here, it is gettingvembarrassing to keep having to complain to the lovely store staff, who all seem very aware of Clarks quality issues these days. And my boys are NOT active footballing kids, trashing shoes in the playground!!!.....they sit around in their school shoes for 6 hours a day and never wear them out of school. As for choosing another style....we've been through several now, and they have all let us down. Plus, 'school shoes' only go up to a 10 anyway (I have a yr10 son who has been at a size 11 for ages!!) So much for 'choice'! Come on Clarks, what's happening with your quality? Most of the parents I know at school gave up on you years ago, having had similar issues. As you are unhappy, please return to store with the shoes, your daughter and your receipts for a manager to look into. Many thanks.

  • 4 stars out of 5Up to Size 10!

    Sarah, bristol

At last, boys school shoes in larger sizes - my son needed 91/2 shoes and at age 11 we didn't want to buy men's shoes. Thank you Clarks for realising that boys feet are bigger than they used to be - now if you could add narrower width fittings in more styles for the tall, skinny boys that would be perfect. Comfy practical age-appropriate shoes.

  • 1 stars out of 5The worst ever shoes

I have been buying Clarks shoes for both my son's for over 10 years and most have lasted until May or June of the following school year. However these shoes have been the worst I ever have bought, after just 12 weeks these shoes are in shreds, the sole is coming away from the shoes and falling off in bits. I see other customers have had the same trouble, this is not acceptable given that these are not cheap by any means. I am really disappointed with the quality of these and will be returning them today for a different style of shoe. "NOT HAPPY"

  • 1 stars out of 5Stitching comes undone

I bought a pair of these shoes towards the end of Sept and had to take them back 5-6 weeks later as stitching had come undone on the side. I am today a month later since getting the replacement pair polishing my them only to discover that the stiching on this new pair has also come undone in the same place. Very disappointed. Expect £48 of shoes to last longer than 4 weeks. Wonder if shoes from same batch and there is a manufacturing problem. Feedback from Emma at Clarks: We’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. We do thoroughly test all our products before they go on sale, so the issue you describe seems unusual. Please return to one of our stores with proof of purchase so the manager can look into it for you.

  • 1 stars out of 5Seams split quickly

I've bought 2 pairs of these shoes now - neither pair lasted 4 weeks. I bought the first pair a few weeks before the end of the Summer term and noticed when getting them out again for the Winter term that they had split so had to get e new pair of shoes for this term. Unfortunately, the only shoes they had in my son's size were the same style and so I had to get the same style again. They lasted 3 weeks before splitting in the same place. For the price they are very badly made. Feedback from Clarks: We are very proud of the quality of our products and to ensure this all our new designs and materials are tested before they go on sale.  If you are disappointed with any of our products please return to a store with your receipt so a member of staff can investigate.

Don't buy these shoes!!!!!! This is the second time I have spent a fortune on Clarks Kids Shoes only to take them back because the stitching has come undone. This time the stitching on both shoes has come undone leaving gapping holes when my son walks and he's only had them two months. What a complete waste of money..... • 4 stars out of 5Practical and comfortable.

    Karen, prestwick

This is the second pair of these shoes I have bought for my son who is very active and hard on his footwear. The last pair were purchased at Easter 2014 and have lasted until Christmas 2014 when the sole had worn down and they had become too small for him. I think that is good value for money. Hoping the new pair last as long as there seem to be a few negative reviews about quality on here.

Very disappointed with this shoe, usually Clarks shoes last well and I've never had a problem until now!! For £48 you'd expect them to last well my son has only worn them for 5 weeks and the stitching on the sides of the shoe are coming apart!! I've just read through the reviews now and this seems to be a common problem !! Wish I'd of seen this before buying in store!! I really think Clarks need to investigate this matter !! Susan, bury st. edmunds

We have just returned the second pair of these shoes. The side seams came apart on both pairs after only 4-5 weeks of wear. I would have expected better quality of school shoes for £48.00. There is very limited choice of boys shoes in an E fitting. Please make more styles in E fitting. Feedback from Clarks; We do see less demand for this size so not all styles are available and availability will be limited, however we do try and offer something for everyone and we will make sure your comments are passed to our children’s team for improvements we make to our collection in the future.

I am now on the second pair of these shoes since October and after 4 weeks use they are again coming apart at the sides on the stitching. Bought these shoes at end of feb, have been worn for 12 weeks , my son does not play foot ball or any sports that would ruin shoes, Leather has scuffs in it, outer edge of sole has chunks out of it, stitching on one shoe has come un stitched, leather on Velcro straps is worn away!!! Not durable enough for school, and especially bad quality!! First and last pair of bootleg I will buy!!! Not Happy at all, shoes look so scruffy!! I always buy Clarks but the quality lately has not been good! My sons shoes usually last a full school year, unless he goes up a size of course but this is rare!! • 1 stars out of 5Not Fit For Purpose

    Michelle, leigh-on-sea

These shoes are an absolute disgrace. My second son had a pair that lasted 8 weeks - same problem as others, stitching coming undone. Shop begrudgingly exchanged for an alternative make. Have just noticed my third sons shoes are coming apart in the same place, purchased from a different shop a few weeks before - clearly therefore a fault with the design of the shoe. I don't mind paying for a school shoe provided they are fit for the purpose for which they are sold - clearly these are not! Feedback from Erin at Clarks: Thank you for leaving a review. • 1 stars out of 5Never again

I have bought these shoes two years in a row and within a matter of weeks the soles had worn through. The first year I thought it was my sons gait and took him to the doctors to be told all was ok. This year I tried again but have already had to replace them (not Clarks I might add) as the same thing had happened. My son tells me that the other children in his class with these shoes have the same problem. At nearly £50 this is absolutely crazy. I went back to the shop where I bought them who told me to go online and leave a complaint. Great! I won't be back buying Clarks shoes for my children next year again. I am not one to really leave complaints or reviews such as this but this is really beyond an acceptable point to me especially as my other sons shoes which are a different version are also full of holes so £90 worth of shoes unwearable within two months! Annie, st. austell

After reading a review on the removable insoles I feel I must comment! I couldn't believe it when my son tried on these shoes and they had a removable insole, why? This has been a real pain, and I have now superglued the insoles into the shoes. I will not buy my sons shoes in Clarks again, such a shame, another British company gone to the wind! Feedback from Erin at Clarks: Thanks for your review and I'm sorry you aren't entirely happy with your purchase. We do manufacture some styles with removable insoles to ensure that we accomodate the needs and requirments of as many of our consumers as possible. • 4 stars out of 5Good for narrow feet

This is now the second pair of these shoes I have purchased, as there is usually a very limited choice of shoes available for my son who has narrow feet. However, these are a good fit with plenty of velcro to do them up securely. The first pair we had have lasted very well and we only needed to buy new shoes because his feet had grown, not because the shoes had worn out. I do feel they are a little expensive.

    Aimie, corby

I have been buying Clarks shoes for my son for the past 11 years, and have bought this particular shoe for the past four years as he likes the design. However the past two years, the shoes have become worse and worse in quality. I bought his most recent pair in September, and just 12 weeks on, there is a hole in the top, the seams are coming away and the soles are very worn. This used to be a brand I could trust, but certainly not any more. I will not be buying Clarks shoes any more. Purchased these shoes ready for start of the school year. Had to take back a few weeks into the term as the stitching had come apart on the side. • 3 stars out of 5Does anyone else have an issue with the insoles?

    Jayne, bolton

The shoes look very smart and are comfortable, but why doesn't the insole stay in the shoe? So OK, my 9 year old doesn't fully undo all 3 straps to take them off every time, but this can't just be my son I'm sure. Apparently Air shoes do this as the insoles are designed to be removable (according to a sales assistant), but I've not had this with other Air Active shoes. Only 8 days into the school term and I'm sick of putting the insoles back and wondering about sticking them down permanently! Not much else to choose from if your looking for a school shoe with a Velcro fastening - fingers crossed that they last and that the insole doesn't deteriorate, as it's being pulled in and out of the shoe.

    Karen, watford

I have been buying Clarks for years and these are the worst for wear I have experienced. My son wore these for only 4 weeks and in that time seams on both shoes split. I returned them to my local store, they were very apologetic and I bought an alternative style. Apparently other customers have retuned these shoes for the same reason. • 1 stars out of 5DID NOT LAST 3 MONTHS!

    S, london

Bought these shoes for my 10 year old son at the extortionate price of £48! Don't really have a choice as he has slim feet and generic brands do not do a range of widths. The stitching at the sides has come undone and the soles are worn through at at the edges! Historically he is not hard on shoes and usually grows out of them before wearing them out. I suggest that Clarks are saving themselves money by using inferior materials on the shoes as they expect the kids to grow out of them quickly. Not the quality I expected for the price paid! Feedback from Georgie at Clarks: Thank you for your review. We are very proud of the quality of our products and to ensure this all our new designs and materials are tested before they go on sale.  If you are disappointed with any of our products please return to a store with your receipt so a member of staff can investigate.

First day of a new term and my 11 year old informs me his shoes leak and are too small, having a bad mother moment I sent him to school anyway and realised we hadn't bought new shoes over a year so they must of lasted rather well. Not living near a Clarks shop or any shoe shop for that matter I decided that online it will have to be. Making an educated guess i.e next size up I quickly and easily ordered a pair. With free delivery as well it can't be bad. Son was strangely excited to open the parcel and walk around in his new shoes declaring them very comfortable and the best pair yet. To me they are just another slightly expensive pair of school shoes and the whole process will be repeated next year!

I bought a pair to replace the same style which lasted through the entire school year. They seemed a little tight, despite being measured in the shop, as they left a red mark on the side of my son's foot, so I went back to his old pair and they are still going strong after a further term of heavy wear. I also bought my other son a pair in Sept at the same time and they are fine and still look good.
