In Clinkards today my 4 year old son had a choice of three shoes for school. He picked his favourite which were the Jack Nano. On getting home we discovered the car hidden in the heal. Is this safe for my son's feet to be walking on a big hole. I wish the shop assistant had pointed this out.

I also cannot understand why these toys are being hidden inside the heel - I only realised the toy was there when I went to write my son's name inside the shoe, as a result very annoyed as these shoes were not the cheap tat they turned out to be.

  • 1 stars out of 5These are going to be returned ASAP

Bought these school shoes today and am very disappointed by the quality. Clarks have put a hole in the sole of the shoe so they can include the free toy. Once the toy is removed it leaves a space which means that you can almost put your finger through the sole. If your child was to stand on some broken glass it would easily go through. I'm taking them back at the weekend and feel really annoyed that Clarks have made a shoe which is so focused on marketing to make parents pay extra for a gimmick toy, rather than putting the protection of the child's foot as the priority. Poor workmanship and badly thought through Clarks. Seriously considering not giving them custom again. It's a sign they are going totally in the wrong direction. Feedback from Clarks: Thanks for leaving a review; we’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. We value all our customer feedback so thank you for your comments which have been fed back to our team.

  • 2 stars out of 5Please stop putting toys in school shoes!

    Susan, wigan

I have always purchased Clarks shoes because of the different width fittings. Whilst I understand it is a competitive market and gimmicks like Jack Nano and Yotoy bring customers in, they are wholly inappropriate in a school shoe. My daughter used to choose shoes, not based on their comfort, but on which toy was inside. My son is now doing the same! In addition, I agree with a previous reviewer about the thickness of the sole inside the toy cavity. Why not just give the toy away with EVERY pair of shoes purchased, or at the very least, put them in a shoe that is not intended for use for up to 8 hours a day. School shoes need to be comfortable and practical. And the last thing teachers need to deal with is half the class removing their shoes unnecessarily to play with or show their friends the toys in their shoes. Rather than just the stock response, this issue needs to be addressed because it has been an issue for some parents for at least six or seven years since Yotoy was introduced.

I purchased these school shoes back in September ready for my son to start school. I was previously unfamiliar with the toys that were supplied with certain school shoes. My husband and I were horrified to find a toy car in the heal of the shoes nearly 6 weeks after purchase. I thought my son was uncomfortable in his new shoes because they were new and needed breaking in. I will be making an effort to make sure there are no toys in the next pair we purchase. The soles are much weakened in the heal area now. I just hope they survive until my sons feet grow.......we pay out for Clarks shoes to protect our children's feet. The shoes are expensive enough and are practical items. They don't need to be turned into a fashion gimmick to sell certain styles. Maybe the toys should be put in the box rather than the heal of the shoe.......if you feel that a toy is a must???? Feedback from Clarks: We were sorry to learn of your disappointment with this style.  Availability of styles and sizes works on a supply and demand basis; however we do try and offer something to suit all of our customers. We will of course pass your comments on to our team for them to take into consideration when planning our range in the future.

  • 1 stars out of 5Hole in the heel is the first place to show wear

    Katy, london

Bought these as my son loves the Jack Nano thing and is sucked in by the idea of the toy. Silly me. The hole in the heel of the shoe is now a hole which leads from his foot to the floor. The rest of the shoe hasn't worn out but the design means that there's a very thin sole in one part (to accommodate the toy) and now his feet are getting wet and I have to buy a new pair! They're not new enough to get a refund, but Clarks should really change the design. Feedback from Clarks: Thanks for leaving a review; we’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. We value all our customer feedback so thank you for your comments which have been fed back to our team.

Bad quality, but I love the fit. Feedback from Clarks: We are very proud of the quality of our products and to ensure this all our new designs and materials are tested before they go on sale.  If you are disappointed with any of our products please return to a store with your receipt so a member of staff can investigate.

These shoes are the best school shoes my son has had. They are so comfortable, great quality and look really good. I don't see the big deal about the toy in the sole as long as the toy stays at home. Also don't see how this affects the general quality of the sole. Love them and wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

  • 4 stars out of 5Good quality shoe.

Like the other reviews, I was surprised to find a car in the heel of the shoe, as this wasn't pointed out to me by the assistant however the shoes are of a good quality, so far so good.
