  • 1 stars out of 5Worst shoe I have ever bought!

    Elizabeth, reading

I really struggled with this shoe. The tongue get popping out all the time. I spent the whole time continuously putting them back on my son. It was very upsetting but I persevered. After trying once to get some answers at a Clarks shoes store, the second time they admitted it was a known problem and swapped the shoes for another of my choice. I have been told that the shoes currently sold do not have the problem now but I would not take the chance!! • 1 stars out of 5Very disappointing for Clarks

Interesting to see so many poor reviews - I bought these for my son as we have always had good quality Clarks shoes for our children. However, after just a few days, the tongue became very loose and now comes out very easily every day. Even fastening as tight as I can does nothing. Buying shoes for twins is an expensive thing, so I have had to keep using these but it has made me think twice now about where I will be getting our shoes from. It's good to see in other posts that Clarks have amended, but it doesn't help those who purchased them so far! • 1 stars out of 5VERY DISAPPOINTED - DO NOT BUY!!!

As with previous reviews the tongue on these shoes keeps slipping down, we brought them a day before our holidays, so my son had no choice but to wear them, and on our return we had lost the receipt so we can't take them back to the store. For £32 I expect much better quality shoes. From having my daughter 7 years ago the quality of Clarks shoes has fallen dramatically. DO NOT BUY THESE SHOES!!!!!!! “Clarks Feedback: We have become aware, in a small minority of cases, that the tongues on Softly To First and Softly Top First are prone to slipping forward after a period of wear. We have made some running amendments to prevent this happening in the future and ensure our products meet our highest standards.”

I have used clarks with my own children, and now my grandchildren, but with my grandson I have had nothing but problems, twice his feet have been measured incorrectly, and as with previous reviewers the tongue on these shoes falls out. I also had this problem with the shoes I purchased previously. I feel very disappointed with the fitting service and the shoes in general. “Clarks Feedback: We have become aware, in a small minority of cases, that the tongues of Softly Plane Fst are prone to slipping forward after a period of wear. • 2 stars out of 5Tongue/Poor Fitting

    Hilary, manchester

These shoes were bought for my grandson. Despite having to go down a width fitting the strap still required pulling so far over that the Velcro was not meeting. Recently the tongue started to slip forward within a few steps. Took the shoes back to the Clarks shop at Denton Crown point. The member of staff my daughter spoke to knew the problem and offered a full refund before she had time to tell him her concerns. Well done Clarks!

  • 1 stars out of 5Tongue and poor fitting.

Really disappointed with these shoes. As for many of the other reviews the tounge just ends up sticking out the front of the shoe after only a few paces. It flaps about annoying my son so we have to stop and try to fix it every few paces - time consuming and not the best fun for him when his friends have run ahead. They also blistered him to start with. I bought wellies at the same time and I also have problems with them and since discovered we were charged wrong. I have always bought Clarks shoes for my kids but this order has really disappointed me. Feedback from Clarks: We are very proud of the quality of our products and to ensure this all our new designs and materials are tested before they go on sale.  If you are disappointed with any of our products please return to a store with your receipt so a member of staff can investigate.

This is the second pair of this type of shoe have tried after the staff assured me that the problem with the tongue had been fix now. Had exactly the same problem with the tongue coming out from under the straps. Started happening with the first pair as soon as they were worn. Returned them to the shop and got exchanged for a second pair the same. 2 weeks later and the same problem starting with these too. Seems to be a design fault. I agree with all the other reviews with regard to the tongue continuously coming out. I wish I had read these reviews earlier as I would have taken the shoes back. It's very expensive buying shoes for twins so you really need these shoe manufacturers to think carefully about their shoe designs. Jennie, west wickham

So glad I'm not the only one having problems with these shoes. Thought I'd bought a faulty pair! The tongue comes out extremely easily, flapping about no matter what you do to try and get it to stay in. Clarks reply that it's only a "small minority" of these shoes that have a problem but judging by the reviews, I'd say it's pretty commonplace. For £32 I'd expect a lot better.

  • 1 stars out of 5Poor fitting making the shoe very disappointing

    edna, orpington

From the very first wearing of the shoe the tongue has continually come out- it is a design fault in my opinion and very poor considering the price. I have been very disappointed by this shoe, extremely unlike me as I love Clarkes shoes for kids! Very disappointing. I would recommend you look at other shoes- do not buy. Feedback from Clarks: We’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. We do thoroughly test all our products before they go on sale, so the issue you describe seems unusual. Samantha, blackwood

I have bought clarks shoes for my 18 month old as conscious of his growing feet, but I have never had so much trouble with the slipping tongue on these shoes. Practically every step i'm pulling the tongue back up which annoys my little boy as all he wants to do is run around playing. At £30 a pair this problem should be fixed i've now had to pay another £30 on a different style shoe in the space of a month. • 1 stars out of 5Not fit for purpose.

Like others I was extremely dissapointed with this shoe. The design is fundamentally flawed - the tongue is too short so slips out almost immediately -this occurred from the very first week of wear (not after prolonged use). It is a trip hazard and therefore dangerous and not fit for purpose. I expect Clarks to contact me to remediate this extremely dissapointing situation. Marcella, kettering

No problem with these shoes but these are the second pair Ive purchased first purchase were the brown and orange ones these shoes have been made for the first steps and the design of these are terrible, the tongue will not stay down. Well I was told that they knew of this problem and offered me 10% off the next pair of shoes which will be the 3rd pair. Well that will cover the expense I had to park my car to take these back to complain. These shoes were only worn for 2 month before need to purchase these blue one as nursery haven't the time to keep fixing the shoes every 5 mins. So disappointed in the Kettering store if they don't believe a refund of goodwill should be honored in their faulty shabby shoes they have manufactured. Like a lot of other reviews I too had a problem with the tongue slipping down my sons foot. A little crease develops after a few steps. I took them back to Clarks and was offered a new pair straight away. I chose a different style. Unusually bad shoe from Clarks. Great Customer Service though.

  • 2 stars out of 5My son's First Shoes....disappointed!

My 15 month old has got small but wide feet, the other problem is his foot is fat on top, not easy to fit! These shoes are very soft but the tongue slips down then flips out completely after a short period of wear! An elasticated tongue would definitely be an improvement. Unfortunately they couldn't offer an alternative in the shop more suitable, and as my boy wants to walk everywhere, had to settle for these just so he had something on his feet! Not good enough for the price! Feedback from Clarks: We’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. • 1 stars out of 5Lovely shoes, but the tongue kept slipping down.

I bought these shoes for my little boy when he was 14 months. They were his first walkers and looked so smart, I was really pleased. However after only a couple of days I noticed that the tongue kept slipping down and was sticking out under the straps. Every time I adjusted them it did it again and in the end it was happening almost as soon as he put them on. I went into my local store and they were really helpful. They said they had had a few returned with the same issue so they exchanged them for another pair in a different style. Excellent customer service!

  • 1 stars out of 5I cant believe such poor quality from clarks!!!

These shoes are the worst shoes I have ever bought! I get my 2 children shoes from all different stores, but for their best shoes I always go to clarks for the quality. My husband took our 21 month old little boy to get new shoes. After measuring the assistant only brought these shoes out saying they were the only ones in my sons size (6G) my partner wasnt sure but the assistant persuaded him saying they were selling fast because they were so trendy. So these were the shoes they came home with that Monday afternoon. On Friday, 4 days later, we noticed the tounge of the shoes keep coming out. The whole weekend there has been no way of keeping these shoes on properly for longer than 5 minutes. Absolute nightmare!!! I am really not happy. I will be taking them back to the shop tomorrow and I will not be shopping at clarks again. If you know theres a problem, which obviously you do, then take them off your shelves. Dont scam your loyal customers! Feedback from Clarks: Thanks for leaving a review; we’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. Bought these shoes in March for my son and he wore them every day until they were too small for him. He found it easier to walk in these shoes than in every other pair (Clarks and other brands) that he tried on. Had no problems with the tongue as mentioned by other reviewers. Would buy them again, but there are so many other cute styles to try next!

  • 5 stars out of 5Great service.

I had the same problem with this shoe, tongue popping down. We've had them for a while, but I thought that the fault was due to my son having wide feet. Anyway, I went to Clarks in Ilkley today and they said it was a known fault. I got a brand new pair of the same shoe as a free exchange, and the new pair are perfect. I think my 20-month old is more comfortable in these new ones. Great service from My local Clarks. I picked these shoes as my baby's first ever ones as they are nice and soft and have a flexible sole. I was really disappointed that the tongue on these slips down, initially on one shoe then on both. I bought Clarks expecting good quality worth paying this much for and am very disappointed, I was not able to return these due to being ill and unable to drive, so on fairness have not asked for a replacement as they are now quite worn. • 1 stars out of 5Complete waste of money (and time)

    DawnLouise, peterlee

We took our son to Clarks for his very first measuring experience and thereafter his first shoes also. We picked these particular shoes as our boy is into planes ao we thought he would like them. £32 is obviously a lot of money to pay - especially for little feet that grow so quickly - but every new parent knows that Clarks is the best...apparently. Anyway our son did love his new shoes....but almost immediately it became evident that there was a problem with them. The tongues kept pushing their way out and flapping about. Not only did it look awful and untidy, but it caused issues for our son walking as they distracted him and he often tripped on them. We complained and were just told it was a one off and was strange. We struggled on using them, tucking the tongue in every 5 minutes - huge inconvenience, but we couldn't afford another pair. Then strangely a cousin had the same issue and was able to return her shoes and was given a discount on the next pair for the inconvenience as it was a known problem? So I contacted Clarks directly, but still no luck and then I saw all the reviews on here. Clarks have since been in touch and asked me to post the shoes to them so they could investigate? But they are of sentimental value so I opted not to. But lesson learned - I will never automatically use Clarks again and will always research before purchase!

Between my two boys I must have bought close to 20 pairs of Clarks shoes and have never had any problems. However these are truly awful shoes, the tongue bunches forward and after a few minutes of wear flops completely out underneath the straps. I only bought them a couple of weeks ago, but they're totally useless - at £32 a complete waste of money. Expected lots better from Clarks, especially for the price. I have the same issue with the shoe tongue as a previous reviewer. I bought these for my son and there are his first pair of shoes. He is a 4 and half H, so there was very little choice in store but these are very soft and were easy to put on my son so was happy with them. The assistant in your Epsom branch who served us was excellent and very helpful. I noticed an issue with the shoe tongue about a week after purchasing them and thought that I might not be doing the velcro straps up tight enough but as much as I try the tongue always moves down towards the toe as my son runs around. It's very annoying and I have to keep adjusting the straps and pulling the tongues up throughout the day. I think the straps aren't wide enough or there should be three instead of two. I believe it to be an issue with the design not fit of the shoe. I would have returned the shoes to the store but I didn't keep the receipt as I had been advised that the shoes were a good fit and have always been happy with the quality of Clarks shoes. I gave the shoe a 2 star rating as the leather is very soft and the colour is practical.
