  • 1 stars out of 5Worst shoe ever from clarks

    Anna, york

As per the previous review the tongue on one shoe keeps slipping forward, it's now got to the point where my son takes only a few steps and it's completely out. I bought these back in December and they were ok at first but gradually with time they are now not wearable. Took them back to clarks today on the off chance of a resolution and despite having them for 3 months they offered me an exchange for a new pair of shoes - didn't want the same ones for obvious reasons but have got some other ones to the same value. Disappointed with the shoes but very happy with the customer service from clarks!! +1 on the tongues slipping. Absolutely woeful shoes. This is evidently either a design or a manufacturing fault. Feedback from Clarks: We are very proud of the quality of our products and to ensure this all our new designs and materials are tested before they go on sale.  If you are disappointed with any of our products please return to a store with your receipt so a member of staff can investigate.

  • 2 stars out of 5Tongues keep slipping out on both feet

I bought these shoes thinking they looked lovely and were a good fit. After about three days of wear the tongues on both shoes kept slipping out. No matter how tight I pull the velcro straps. Really unhappy as have only had these four weeks and my son looks like scruffy with the tongues hanging out. Considering these were £32.00 I feel very cheated and disappointed. Wish I had checked the reviews before buying. • 1 stars out of 5Tongue slips out!

    Rose, walsall

My son has these shoes and just like everyone else here, we have the se problem with the tongue slipping out. It looks incredibly uncomfortable and I agree with the other customers that you should be able to get a much better quality product for this price. I will be taking them back this week. It's a very sad end to what should be a really happy occasion - getting your first shoes! I don't want to give them back - I want to keep them for posterity! “Clarks Feedback: We have become aware, in a small minority of cases, that the tongues on Softly To First and Softly Top First are prone to slipping forward after a period of wear. These were the first walking pair of shoes for my little boy and trusted the Clarks brand. These shoes are awful - after about 5 minutes of wearing the tongue comes out and the look so uncomfortable. The nursery my little boy attends have said it is affecting his walking and we have since brought another pair of shoes else where which are much better. Do not waste your money!!! • 2 stars out of 5Tongue slips down

    Louise, littlehampton

We had these in blue size 5.5G and after only 2 weeks of wearing the tongue on one shoe started to work its way out of the shoe and eventually if I didn't do them up again the shoe would fall off. I got them exchanged in store after six weeks of wearing and they said he was actually a 5.5H and hoped that the wider shoe would not have the same problem. Unfortunately it has done and I am a bit annoyed about it. It is odd because his previous shoes were basically the same design so I can't work out what the problem is but I definitely won't be buying them again. Other than that they are good shoes and I like the flexibility of the soles. I should have read the reviews before buying these shoes, what people say is correct and the tongues do indeed slip all the way down and slip out of the front of this shoe, I was going to take them back but haven't got around to it so have just taken the view that at least my son will grow out of them pretty quickly. For the price I would expect more, as people keep bringing it up I would also expect Clarks to remove them from sale so wonder why they haven't. I will always read the reviews in future! • 1 stars out of 5Tongue slip forward out the shoes.

    Marcella, kettering

I'm a working mother of twins i have not got the time to keep going into town returning items that are faulty so I go Clarks for the fitting service and so called quaility shoes, I have gone there for all my 4 kids shoes, So i purchase these shoes along with the blue and red plane logo ones. I've had no problems with the blue shoes but i've stop my son wearing these brown ones. These shoes have been made for the first steps and the design of these are terrible, the tongue will not stay down and everyone that saw them when he was wearing them where shocked when they seen they had come from Clarks. I am going to the trouble tomorrow to go back to town with them and have it out with the shop as i've now just read the other reviews and its not the way my son walks in them. These shoes are not cheap and when your buying for 4 kids you expect them to be good for the money. I was going to just purchase more shoes today online as i said i have to work all hours to keep paying for shoes i thought because my sons where walking funny. I hope customer service is as good as they are when they are taking your money off you. My rating would be a 0 but you cant give a Zero Clarks Feedback: We have become aware, in a small minority of cases, that the tongues on Softly To First and Softly Top First are prone to slipping forward after a period of wear. • 1 stars out of 5Tongue problem -still exists-uncomfortable/sore

The tongue has slid down the shoe and the shoes has lost its shape as a result. Now, there is a big deep groove at the botton of the tongue, which makes a hard ridge on the inside of the shoe. My 20month old gets upset when I get his shoes, and runs to his wellies. Not good Clarks, These are expensive items. • 1 stars out of 5PROBLEM WITH TONGUE.

    GEORGINA, holywell

The shoe fits my son fine - lovely and soft inside. I was pleased with product - until after a weeks wear the tongue of the shoe keeps slipping down the shoe and pops out after just a short walk (same on both feet). I had my son's feet measured at a Clarks store - I purchased online. On contacting Clarks about the problem, they expect me to travel to nearest store for a staff member to check the fit of the shoe. Clarks should certainly be considering removing this product from sale as I see from other review on here - this is a known problem with this style of shoe. I have the same problem with the tounge slipping out. Took the shoe back to the store to be told that it could be due to the leather being so soft. A child in my son's nursery has the same problem. Probably best to avoid, love clarks shoes normally but am disappointed. • 1 stars out of 5Problem with tongue

I bought these shoes for my 2 year old grandson. Unfortunately, after he had worn them for a week his parents reported that the tongue kept working its way down the front of the shoe after he had walked only a short distance until it finally came out altogether. I took the shoes back to John Lewis where I had bought them and changed them for another style which appear sturdier and hopefully will be OK. I would add that I have bought Clarks shoes for both my own sons when they were younger and for my 3 grandsons for years and this is the first time I have had a problem. • 2 stars out of 5Problem with tongue

I was hesitant to buy these shoes as we had the same problem with a previous pair of similar design; however, this was the only style the store had in my son's size. Even though the fit looked good initially, after a couple of weeks, the tongue started to slip down and look uncomfortable. Even with constant adjustment, it only seems to have got worse. This is a shame because otherwise these shoes would be great. I love these shoes and so does my 18 month old boy. I will be buying the next size up in them as well. What I like especially is how light they are but everything about them is great - the material is soft and flexible and they're hardwearing, we've had ours for quite a few months now. I do not agree with any of the comments on here about the tongue - we have had no problem at all. Highly recommended.

My son love these, he's had all sorts of shoes but we didn't have much luck with them staying on his feet with him taking them off and sometimes slipping off, but not these ones, I would say go and get your little ones feet fitted in the shop in the same shoe, as the sizes change with the make

Have just bought my grandson some of these shoes for the spring after having had Clarks shoes before for him. They are flexible and light weight which is ideal for children. Also the Velcro fastener is great for him to put them on himself. The assistant Amanda who served us was very efficient and helpful. Will definitely go back to Clarks again.

I purchased these shoes for my son who was a size 5E at the time and have wore great and no problems regards tongue slipping like other reviews have stated. They also lasted him 8 months before he's moved up a size and still have plenty wear left in them. Infact I have just ordered them today in another colour in his new size.

Good shoes at a good sale price. Comfy and long lasting. I would like to suggest though that Clarks stick to the one chunkier velcro strap fastener, I find those easier to fasten on a little toddler who is often hard to catch!
