  • 1 stars out of 5Very dissappointed

My husband bought a pair of these sandals on the 3rd April, less than three weeks later the stitching came apart on the strap. Looking at the stitching revealed the fact that the strap was not tucked under the sole but was merely stitched on with one row of stitching and this had given way. We took them back and they were replaced with a new pair, these lasted for four days!!! We now have a pair of a different style and hope for better luck, we had to pay extra for these which we object to as we have had a lot of inconvenience in having to return two pairs to Taunton as we do not have a Clarks shop in our home town of Wellington. Feedback from Erin at Clarks: Thanks for leaving a review and I'm sorry to hear you are disappointed with your purchase. All of our new designs and materials are tested before they go on sale, so this seems very unusual. All returns are logged for feedback to our design teams and this information is used to help us improve for the future.

Initial pair failed when stitching on strap parted company. Have obtained a replacement pair - time will tell.

  • 1 stars out of 5strap broke after a day's wear!

My husband has been wearing Clarks sandals for over 20 years. His first pair lasted years and he lived in them. Unfortunately the quality has been getting worse and worse. He bought a new pair of Atl's last Thursday, wore them all day Saturday and on Sunday morning the strap gave way completely. I had been wary of buying them after reading the reviews on this site and was not impressed with the stitching when I looked at it closely but decided to give them a go as he always finds them so comfortable. I didn't expect them to last less than 24hours! We won't risk another pair and will unfortunately have to shop elsewhere which is a pity. Feedback from Erin at Clarks: Thanks for leaving a review. All of our new designs are thoroughly tested before they go on sale so I'm sorry to read of your disappointment. Please visit store with your receipt for a manager to look into further.

  • 2 stars out of 5So disappointed!

I have been a regular buyer of the original ATL sandal, very strongly made, great support, yet exceptionally comfortable, with a magnetic clip which retains your fitting and removes the complete waste of time of having to adjust Velcro straps every time I put them on. I have bought six pairs over years and years, wearing them every day from May to October, and I am finally down to my last good condition pair. So I went to try the ATL Part hoping that they would continue the great tradition. I've tried them now and they just don't compare - they're going back. I really don't understand, Clarks, why you have abandoned such a fantastic and iconic product for this second rate copy. Please bring back the originals - until then, I'll be buying other brands. As a lifetime Clarks customer, this is very disappointing. Feedback from Clarks: Thanks for leaving a review; we’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. We value all our customer feedback so thank you for your comments which have been fed back to our team.

  • 1 stars out of 5Sadness and despair

For the past 15 years (or thereabouts) I have exclusively worn the ATL with magnetic fasteners - many many pairs. From wet to rain to snow and sun, these wonderful, wonderful sandals never left my happy feet. Popping them on was a joy, and after slipping them on, click, click and they were secure. As my last pair has finally worn through, I was forced to buy these substandard velcro fastened ones - no more easy fitting - now I have returned to the pain of bending down to fasten my footwear. The velcro does not make me happy, or feel secure - the weak plastic loops are certainly not anywhere near the high standards that I have held Clarks to for all these years. I had tried to buy a pair of the magnetic ones on the internet from Australia (the last pair advertised anywhere in the world), but sadly got stung for £100. Clarks, please, please bring back the amazing magnetic fasteners again - they were the standard to which I help dear, and now am saddened. Until they come back, this is the last Clarks product I will ever buy. Until then I will be sobbing in the corner.

  • 1 stars out of 5POOR QUALITY

    Peter, sheffield

Re the response to "Very Dissappointed" it seems to be not at all unusual. I have had these sandals or similar from Clarks for over 10 years, and they have lasted well (I wear them most of the year). This year I bought a pair a couple of months ago, and within a few weeks of light use the strap had come adrift from the bottoms. I exchanged them for a new pair on 1 May, and today (28 May) the EXACT same thing has happened. The black pair I bought last year shows no significant signs of age apart from worn tread, and there is a discernible difference in quality between the black and brown models. I am disappointed by the fall-off in quality. While I appreciate Clarks have to compete do they have to design/produce down to a price regardless of quality? And while on the subject, would bringing back magnetic catches (SO useful when stones get under the foot) add more than a pound or two per pair? From the previous comments made most people would appear prepared to pay the extra. I think I may have to look elsewhere for my 2016 pair of sandals. Feedback from Erin at Clarks: Thanks for your review. I'm sorry to read of your disappointment. Please be assured all returns and complaints are monitored by our design teams, they use this information to help make improvements to future collections. Due to the feedback we have received, our design teams are hoping to offer the magnetic fastening on some styles for Spring/Summer next year. If you aren't entirely happy with the product, please return to store along with your proof of purchase for a manager to assist further. We value all customer feedback so thanks for your comments, which have been fed back to the team.

  • 4 stars out of 5Mens ATL sandals.

I have bought three pairs over the last six years, wearing them around the world including Vietnam and Australia. Like so many other retailers Clarks seem to want to change a good original design maybe to make it "New" or different for the next years range. Perhaps to retain profit margin or a new buyer wants to make changes. What ever the reason, may I say that as retired shoe retailers of 4 generations, if you want to keep loyal Customers be careful how you mess around with your BASIC lines. When it comes to sandals the old "Roman" style with buckle strap is still good. My Liverpool customers called them Desert Wellies! The newer "Click" fastener was convenient. The Velco less useful and often a fiddle. Clarks buyers should try wearing their new creations themselves for a bit and remember that the public have grown to think of Clarks as a trusted brand for classic quality. An image advertising cannot buy. Discerning customers WILL return and if the price has to increase a little, don't spoil the product. • 3 stars out of 5Massive disappointment

    Mike, london

Others have made favorable comments, but what are they comparing this sandle to? I am comparing it to the ATL original sandal, for many years Clarks top of the range product of which I have two pairs, along with two other pairs of their sandals, and numerous pairs of Clarks shoes (a big girl really when it comes to shoes :-). But less about me more about shoes, and sandals in particular. There are sandals and sandals: light weight ones for the beach and strutting in; comfortable, robust, durable ones which are good for that too but also for serious trekking. The ATL original was supreme in that latter category - easily adjustable, with a well dished sole that gave adequate protection to the toes, and a click fastening which made them quick and easy to put on/take off. None of this faffing with Velcro through small relatively flimsy plastic loops. Clarks, why did you discontinue this fabulous design? It was a Classic. Please bring it back. As to this new ATL design - "ATL Part", with hindsight I guess the name says it all: Part thought through. It claims to be an improved design, and indeed Active Air is an improvement, if ONLY it were an improvement on the ORIGINAL design. What we have here is a MASSIVE disappointment. So I am sending them back. Feedback from Clarks: Thanks for leaving a review; we’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. We value all our customer feedback so thank you for your comments which have been fed back to our team.

  • 1 stars out of 5Magnetic catch gone! Why?

Very disappointed - the unique thing about Clarks sandals is not available. Very poor decision. I will be going elsewhere for my footwear until the magnets are back. I am pleased to say that due to the feedback we have received, our design teams are hoping to offer our consumers something similar for Spring/Summer next year. • 1 stars out of 5If it ain't broke...

    Adrian, bristol

I have purchased two pairs of "ATL Part" sandals in the past. They were the most comfortable sandals I had ever worn but after a few years of constant use were a bit tattered, so I decided to order a new pair. When I placed the order I did not realize that actually the design has changed a lot: - the strap on the old model could be adjusted to your foot size in a permanent way; you just had to clip in the plastic buckle when putting them on. In contrast, the new model has a velcro strap that is harder to put on (you need to lift it before putting your foot in the sandal unlike the previous model) and needs to be adjusted to the foot width every single time you put it on. - the old model had a strip running along the top of the sandal between the front and back bits. This gave some extra sturdiness to the sandals, making them ideal for walking on tough terrain. The new model lacks this altogether. - the old model was slightly raised under the arch of the foot giving the perfect amount of arch support; with the new model it feels there is a gap under the arch and instead it feels like the outside edges are raised more than they should be. I have been wearing the sandals around the house for two days hoping that they will "break in" but I have to stop as my feet are just hurting too much. Will definitely be returning these. I really don't understand why they changed the design.

  • 2 stars out of 5I want the Magnetic Fastners back

    Peter, witham

I bought these as my previous pair of Clarks sandals with Magnetic fasteners were starting to get a bit worn. My experience of Clarks Sandals in the past has been excellent however these only lasted 6 months. The stitching around the strap connection to sole came away. Why can't shoe manufacturers stop messing with their products. My old pair now 5 years old although worn are back doing the job and I won't buy anther pair from Clarks until the quality is back to what it used to be. Feedback from Erin at Clarks: Thanks for leaving a review. All of our new designs and materials are tested before they go on sale, so this seems very unusual. As you have been left feeling disappointed please return to a store with your receipt so a member of staff can investigate. Due to the feedback we have received, our design teams are hoping to offer our consumers something similar for Spring/Summer next year. If you would like to find out more, please get back in contact with us closer to the time.

  • 1 stars out of 5Have Clarks forgotten how to make men's sandals?

    Christopher, macclesfield

My first pair lasted three months before the stitching between ankle strap and sole came apart. First replacement pair lasted lasted 10 months because I did not wear them over the winter. Second replacement pair lasted about a month. Same defect every time. Just received my third replacement pair. All replaced free of charge but obviously at a cost of a lot of inconvenience. Have worn Clarks sandals all through the summer for about twenty years and never had a problem like this. Feedback from Erin at Clarks: Thanks for your review. I'm sorry to read of your disappointment. We are very proud of the quality of our products and to ensure this all our new designs and materials are tested before they go on sale. • 1 stars out of 5Even more disappointed.

I echo the comments of a previous customer. I have restricted movement in my hips and cannot cope with buckles or velcro. Your magnetic catches are fantastic as they close without me bending down. I also wear these sandels from April to Ocotber. If you really value customers' opinions as you claim, do something about it. Customer service rather than lip service! Chris, budleigh salterton

Like the other review, I had to return my sandals for a replacement after only 4 weeks when the stitching holding the strap in place came undone. Shame as Clarks used to be reliable for quality and now they are definitely not as good as they used to be.

  • 5 stars out of 5Clarks for life!

    Mark, craven arms

My mother first got me into Clarks shoes as a very young child. I have always found them the most comfortable for my feet. I bought a pair of Active Air sandals over ten years ago, and they are still in use (in the garden!). This latest pair are even more comfortable. I have wide feet, so love Clarks shoes because they allow me to get the correct size (8.5) rather than having to buy 9s to get the width. I am sure this is better for my feet. Thank you Clarks.

  • 2 stars out of 5Almost there....

    David, andover

Don't make a G fitting sandal where the centre of the sandal is an E fitting. The part between the ball of the foot and the heel is too narrow, the edges are too high and it is way too hard - no flexibility at all. After a day in these I was crippled. Sorry guys, they're on there way back to you. Shame, because the rest of the sandal was 110% - I just can't wear them! Feedback from Clarks: Thank you for leaving a review and we're sorry to hear you didn't find these shoes comfy. We know that everyone's feet are different and so do our best to provide shoes to suit all shapes and sizes but in the end comfort is a personal thing.
