Extremely disappointed in this shoe and intending to return to the store tomorrow for a refund. Uppers are ok but the sole has fallen apart very rapidly and now has holes in it. The Jack Shine Junior Leather that preceded it also only lasted for a term, having been bought at the end of summer holidays and that holed by the end of November. Judging by the other reviews, our experience is anything but unusual and it's disappointing to see the complacency of Clark's expressed in their response to all these dissatisfied customers. I suspect many people can't be bothered to post reviews and just chuck them in the bin, but having now wasted nearly £90 on shoes for a 9-year old in under 6 months we'll be looking elsewhere. I suggest you do the same. Feedback from Clarks: We are very proud of the quality of our products and to ensure this all our new designs and materials are tested before they go on sale.  If you are disappointed with any of our products please return to a store with your receipt so a member of staff can investigate.

  • 1 stars out of 5Waste of Money - Terrible Quality

These shoes are not up to standard. I bought these shoes for my 8 year old son at the start of the new school year (September 2013) and to pay a price of £45 for boys school shoes, I expect them to last a good few months, possibly the school year. How wrong could I be? By the end of December the soles have a big hole in and are letting in water, meaning my son has to endure wet feet, throughout his school day if it is raining. A waste of money and will not be buying Clarks shoes again. Back to Hush Puppies we go!! CAROL, llandrindod wells

I have bought Clarks shoes for my 5 children since my eldest (who is now 15) started to walk. I have never been disappointed with the quality until buying these. My son wore these for 4 weeks before the sole starting coming away and part of it actually fell off! I took them back to store for a replacement pair but was told it was how he was wearing them!! They agreed to replace them but told me it was a goodwill gesture and if it happened again they wouldn't. I informed the girl that if it happened again I would no longer be buying Clarks. Two weeks later the new ones are falling apart. Wish I'd read some of the other reviews on here before buying. As someone else said, if they'd only cost me £20 I wouldn't mind so much. Feedback from Clarks: Thanks for leaving a review; we’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. We value all our customer feedback so thank you for your comments which have been fed back to our team.

I bought these shoes for my son just before he returned to school in September. I now have to get some more shoes after only 3 months...!! Just before Christmas, like I need that...!! There are holes in the soles, so they leak and they look terrible .He only wears them for school.!! I am not happy.. £45 for these... I expected them to last longer... I certainly wont be buying Clarks again....!!! as others have reported these shoes are NOT Clarks normal standard. I have bought this style of shoe for the last 7 years for my son who has aspergers and has to have the same things, this morning he complained that they didn't "feel" right and on inspection I was shocked at just how bad they were :( I will however go back to Clarks and buy him more shoes today as he has to have the same things but i'm not happy as normally Clarks shoes would last until my sons feet grew. And no I don't have a receipt as I have never had a problem before. Advice to Clarks if you're going to sell sub standard shoes you could atleast charge accordingly I wouldn't mind if they were only £20

These haven't been worn yet and bought them before I saw these reviews so am anxious to see how they will fair, my 9 year old son isn't as boisterous as some boys (my 6 year old included) so hopefully they'll last a decent amount of time. Staff helpful and efficient as usual.

  • 1 stars out of 5VERY poor quality

I bought these shoes for my 10 year old son who does all the normal things at school that normal 10 year olds do - these shoes lasted 2 days before the rubber sole began peeling. I took them back to the store where I received a replacement and where the shop assistant assured me that they had had no other returns of this model. The replacement lasted just one day!! Unbelievable! I have shopped at Clarks for school shoes for over 10 years for both my children (would add up to quite a substantial amount if I did the maths!) and feel so disappointed that these shoes are clearly below standard. I now have to make another trip to the store at yet more expense to obtain a refund and shop at another shoe retailer. Very unhappy. Feedback from Clarks: We are very proud of the quality of our products and to ensure this all our new designs and materials are tested before they go on sale. The issues you have raised are now being investigated thoroughly and we will update our customers once this investigation is complete. Sorry for any disappointment caused.

The store had no shoes at all in my sons size 3H, so they were very good and ordered for me to be delivered to my home next day. Therefore we had not tried the shoes on prior to delivery and were very nervous that they would be ok. The shoes arrived promptly the next morning and we are very pleased. They fitted very well indeed, especially as my son has a very wide foot and are proving to be a very comfortable and sturdy school shoe. My son is happy as they are both smart looking and modern enough for an 11 year old and i am happy because they fit well and are strong and suportive. Thank you Clarks, both on the shoe and the very good and friendly service at your Bedford store.

First pair worn and sole came apart (unfortunately i didn't keep the receipt). So bought a second pair another £45 (same size) - same problem after 3 weeks - replaced with not much problems as this was only after 3 weeks! Third pair - same problem with about 3 weeks wear (but in between Easter Holidays). Now I am told I can't have these changed with guarantee as this must be an unsuitable shoe for my boy! - and I was told nobody else is reporting any problems!! - looking at the reviews this is not the case. So after 9 years buying shoes at Clarks I am off to John Lewis. I purchased these shoes for my son aged 9 for school on 11/11/13 after 4 weeks I noticed the sole was coming away, I wasn't really happy so I returned them to the store with a printed bank statement as I couldn't find my reciept ( which I am terrible for) the staff where so helpful! They checked there stock and unfortunately hadn't got any more, so they ordered me a pair that was delivered direct to my address I was so happy ! Just hoping now that this pair last as I always purchase Clarks school shoes for my children.

  • 1 stars out of 5The worst pair of childs shoes I have ever bought

    Catherine, east boldon

I wish I had read these reviews before purchasing these shoes. Like many of the other reviewers my ten year old child has worn these since September for a maximum of two hours each school day as they wear indoor shoes inside of school and they have got a hole in the sole. I suspect the wear started long ago but I have to be honest I do not inspect my ten year old's shoes and wasn't aware of the problem until told me about the hole. I have not been happy with Clark's response either in store or via their customer service team and will not be buying Clarks shoes again for any of my three children as a result of this. I have bought my son new shoes from Startrite which are no more expensive but seem to be of a much higher quality. • 1 stars out of 5The quality of soles is awful!

    Vanja, stanmore

We had one pair from September until late February which wore quite badly but as my son's feet grew did not question getting a new pair. After just 11 weeks the soles on the latest pair are totally worn and no threading remains at the front part. That isn't only dangerous but totally unacceptable when the shoes cost fr£45 and come from Clark's who pride themselves on being a quality shoe vendor. I thankfully had a receipt and took them back to the store, who agreed to exchange them but suggested this was due to my son playing football in them!?! Not only does he take his football boots to play in, but even if he did play occasional football game, the school shoes at this price ought to withstand a bit more! And judging by numerous comments, we are not alone. Interesting to see that new style just released has a different sole - not so impressed to see the price go up by £3! Clark's - hope you are listening to this feedback. Feedback from Clarks: Thanks for leaving a review; we’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. I have nothing but praise for the staff at the Clarks branch in Glasgow. After looking around the shop, I enquired from one of the staff if the shoe I was looking for was available in a size 7.5. I was informed that it was currently out of stock but that I could order the shoes in store for delivery to my home address. I opted for this and informed the manager that I would like 2 pairs of shoes. I was then offered a promotional discount and I paid for the shoes with my Debit card. The shoes arrived to-day and I am happy with my purchase. The name of the shoe is Lair Code and having purchased them before, I know that they are made in Cambodia. I hope that this purchase might indirectly assist a family in Cambodia working for Clarks shoes or their suppliers. The shoes are very comfortable. The staff went the extra mile for me that day and I thank them for the assistance rendered to me on the 26 November 2013. I would not hesitate to use a Clarks shop in the future and I will recommend Clarks shoes to my friends

My son only wore his for a term. By the end of the term, there were holes on the soles. My advise is not to buy this design. D JANE, edinburgh

I returned these shoes this evening as my son returned home from school with soaking wet feet. The soles on his shoes had a gaping hole and he sat all day with wet feet. I had expected a battle to get a new pair of shoes with Clarks in exchange as I had no receipt and the shoes were 6 months old but when you pay 45.00 you expect more from Clarks. I have to say the Team Leader accepted this was a fault and let me pick another pair of shoes free of charge which is excellent customer service. We had to opt for the same pair as needed a pair for school urgently and there was little choice but the soles have been updated and I was advised the fault has been fixed. • 2 stars out of 5Soles wore out..again!

Like almost every other pair of Clarks school shoes I have bought over the last few years, the soles of these shoes wore out, leaving my son with extremely wet feet. The uppers are still in good condition, to be fair, but it is annoying to go back to the shoes shop to buy new shoes and find that his feet are exactly the same size. (He is only 9 so his feet are still growing). I also buy Clarks trainers which he grows out of as expected. Please Clarks can you make school shoes for boys with soles that last as long as you trainers do. £45 is an awful lot of money to spend on shoes that wear out as quickly as yours do. Being a mother a five i have always purchased school shoes just due to quality and also by paying a good price ( whats the saying you get what you pay for) would last the school year unless outgrown. this has been the case for the last 8 years however the sole on both the velcro bootleg the air humber and surrey seems to disintergrate after about 8 weeks if not less. i am shocked if clarks do not do anything about this as a lot of people don't think to complain as they have no receipt or the inclination. unless clarks address this problem i will no longer be buying school shoes from them. And if i could have put a minus rating i would have. I went to a Clarks shop with my 9 year old son and was recommended these shoes as he has a high in step. After 3 months, the sole is in a right state, there are red rubber circles on the bottom, 2 of which have fallen off and left a hole that goes right through to my son's foot, so everytime it rains he has wet feet! I have never had a poor quality pair of shoes like this before from Clarks and after paying £45 for them for the soles to fall apart after 3 months, it's disgusting. I have not kept the receipt so I have wasted our hard earned money on rubbish. After reading quite a few reviews of the same issue with these shoes, there is obviously a problem. I have a walking disability and I am very hard on my footwear. I have purchased Clarks Velcro fastening Boys school shoes a number of times. There is no equivalent type of shoe available in women's shoes and I would be lost without these shoes. Sorry to hear of your disappointment, we do try and offer a selection of styles so that all our customers may find something suitable, so we will pass this on to our children’s design team. In the mean time due to size restrictions in stores they can't always stock all sizes and width fittings so you may wish to check on the website www.clarks.co.uk to see if any of the styles you were interested in are available to order?

I have always bought Clarks shoes for both my children, the eldest being 14, and have never been disappointed until now. I initially bought these shoes in June last year and when term finished, mid July, the sole had worn badly and had a hole in. My son wanted the same shoe for September as he had gone up a size. I gave in, thinking maybe it was a sizing issue that had caused the problem with the last shoes. Very disappointed with these shoes. They looked great in the shop, son tried them on and then the first time he put them on for school they broke. The top velcro strap has a plastic ring which it threads through before you pull it over to fasten. Snapped off into bits the first time he put them on! Surely a stronger ring should be used in the design? or better still why isn't it just like the other two straps? Will have to look at other styles but it's the inconvenience of going back into the store with son which annoys me. For this price and the Clarks name I expect far better!!! I am very disappointed with this purchase. My son's last pair of school shoes from Clarks lasted the entire year. These however, have lasted three months at best! The leather has come apart from the Velcro on the strap, the sole is peeling away and his toe is nearly poking out through the front! Never thought of keeping the receipt as I have never had any problems with Clarks shoes in the last 10 years of buying shoes for my children. Very expensive purchase! Elizabeth from lifton

Just gone on line to buy another pair of these school shoes for my son thinking we must have just been unlucky this year as his shoes are falling apart inside and worn out on the sole already and relieved to see that it is not only us who have experienced this. My son (aged 10) has had a pair of Clarks shoes at the beginning of every school year and so far, without exception, those shoes have lasted the whole year - fabulous value for money and well worth paying the extra for. Sadly not the case this year and a lot of money for a pair of shoes which have only lasted 6 months. Yes, he is a boy and I appreciate they are generally harder on their shoes, but he's not a playground footballer and certainly less demanding on his shoes than his younger brother (who, by the way, has a different design of Clarks shoes which are wearing without problem.)

My son has problems with his feet and needs a durable shoe to keep his feet in a good position that don't wear out on the sole quickly. I never usually have a problem with Clarks shoes and some have lasted him 12 months before until his feet have grown. He has worn these for 11weeks and they are totally worn out- not good for £45. The sole has completely worn away underneath and the leather straps have all come unstitched and look tatty. He needs a new pair already but I won't be buying this style again. My son finds these very comfortable as they are a cross between trainers and shoes, so they are acceptable for uniform but also good for playing footie at break. The only problem seems to be the red circular dots on the heels after a couple of months drop out, although the shoes are worn a lot I do think at £45 they should last longer than 4-5 months. • 3 stars out of 5Innadequate durability of soles

    Beverley from craven arms

Was very pleased when I bought these school shoes in the summer. They are a good comfortable shoe, with good protection in vulnerable spots. About a month ago, however, the soles started to disintegrate, and have rapidly done so since. I am now shocked to discover that there is little sole left at the ball of the foot on either shoe, with fabric visible on one of them, and one toe is also down to the fabric. I am now needing to replace them urgently well before they have been outgrown. I would expect such an expensive school shoe to last a year, as have all my son's previous pairs (unless outgrown sooner). I don't believe he is excessively harsh on his shoes, so am very disappointed. The uppers and inside of the shoes are still in very good condition, but the soles are shocking and not up to the job. My son is 10 years old and has only ever worn Clarks shoes. We bought these at the beginning of January ready for the new school year and after only a week and a half the sole was coming apart. We have the receipt so are going to try and get a replacement or refund from the store that sold them. However after reading all the other reviews, if the 2nd pair are no better then maybe it's time to try a different brand of shoe. For £45 and the Clarks Brand I would expect a much, much better quality of shoe. Please investigate Clarks. Feedback from Clarks: We’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. I have always rated Clarks shoes - my mum always made sure as children that we all had Clarks shoes because the quality was so reliable. How things change!! These shoes are awful quality - seams on the inner bend on big toe have split, letting in water in BOTH shoes, so clearly there is a manufacturing problem. Soles worn out far too quickly. Inferior quality product for a superior quality price! Will be looking for a new brand for September, as it seems will so many other parents. • 1 stars out of 5High Hopes - HOPEFULLY!!!!!

I have bought these shoes for my son after his last pair of clarks shoes fell apart after 3 weeks. I went back to the shop who agreed to replace them if we could bring the receipt back. I couldn't find it and so therefore they would not replace. My son had to wear them until they were not fit to wear. I have now bought him these and looking at the reviews I fear the worst. I have always purchased Clarks shoes for him since Reception and now he is year 6. I do believe their shoes are becoming thinner and less sturdy as the years go on and the prices are rising. I was utterly disappointed with his shoes this year. I would have the thought the shop could see they were almost brand new after all it was only 18th September and he hadn't been back at school 3 weeks. It didn't look like he had really worn them. My daughter had issues with the girls shoes as she has a very small size foot she ended up in the thinner school shoe as the chunky heal were only available in bigger sizes and within weeks the heal of about 3 mm had almost worn away and she does not have a problem where her leans on one side of her foot and if you could see her she looks like a tiny dot even at 7 and half I can carry her like a toddler. If Clarks don't pull their socks up I know I wont be buying from them in the future and I know many of my school mums feel the same. almost £90 for 2 pairs of shoes and some mums paid £180 for 4 boys to start back in September. Clarks you have a problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Feedback from Clarks: Thanks for leaving a review; we’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your original purchases. These shoes are very hard wearing and are ideal for school, however I was disappointed with the Velcro strap, stitching came apart after first week so it's a nuisance trying to put it through the plastic loop but I decided not to return them as other than this they are brilliant. He had no problems with the last pair and being a boy did not mind having the same style again as comfort is more important than style. My youngest son had these shoes Sept' 13 for school. Up to Easter of 2014 they were good hard wearing in general, for the daily constant "boy" use they get! Sadly one of the metal buckles broken where the first leather strap comes over the foot. I took them back to the store, where I fortunately still had the receipt and I was advised that If he was still in the same size I could have 50% off a new pair. It was explained to me that after 6 months If he had gone up a shoe size then it would be seen as normal wear and tear. My son was measured ( the new i pads used were very accurate) and Interactve! He was still the same size so I opted for free home delivery as his size was not in stock together with 50% off. I found this to be a fair customer service policy and everyone was pleased with the outcome. I have always bought clarks shoes. On the first day of wearing them my son had blisters on the outside bone area of each ankle. On looking at the shoe and you can see this when you look at all the boys shoes together they are quite high on the ankle area and the corners come forward into quite a sharp corner. I have always bought Clarks shoes for all 3 children as I believed they were well made and value for money - as they are certainly not cheap. These shoes are clearly substandard - I purchased them for my 10yr old as they appeared to be robust enough to withstand play and football. At £45 they were incredibly expensive...................... As with other reviews the sole has disintegrated - leaving holes and a child with wet feet. This just is not good enough - especially for the price. No other school shoe I have purchased over the past 11 yrs has worn so incredibly badly or been quite so overpriced. Looking to purchase a replacement and in a size 4 1/2 the choice is incredibly limited. Think I may very well look elsewhere as I am not prepared to buy such poor quality shoes again. I have to say I agree with the other reviews. My son has very little choice when it comes to school shoes as he has the widest foot and clarks very rarely have in stock what he needs. He has had these shoes twice, maybe three times now and they never really last much beyond February half term. The soles begin to bubble and the get a hole in. I clean and spray these shoes religiously once a week but it makes no difference. I have recently had home delivery on these shoes as shop didnt have his size but today they are going back as they are not wide enough and after reading the other reviews I think I am making the right decision to change styles. Looking at the utility. Lace ups but might last longer and slightly cheaper. A lot of money for so little wearing time.

They leak, have fallen apart in a number of places, and just are not up to Clarks usual standard at all. Now having to pay out for a new pair of shoes which will be the same size but have no choice as other makes of shoes just don't fit. Avoid these at all costs :( Feedback from Clarks: We’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. We do thoroughly test all our products before they go on sale, so the issue you describe seems unusual. Please return to one of our stores with proof of purchase so the manager can look into it for you. We will happily refund or replace any items deemed as faulty.

  • 4 stars out of 5A decent shoe- My take on the above reviews

My 11 year old really likes these. Yes, after 3-4 months of wearing these shoes for 5 days a week - inside the school building and in the playground) through winter weather - the soles did start to get holes in ( through wear on the red circle pressure points) . However, the upper was excellent as I expect with Clarks and I see this as natural wear and tear from an 11 year old . To summarise - sturdy, keep their shape and look good - I'm just about to buy another pair!

  • 1 stars out of 5A Con, avoid like the plague

Clarks is no more! We bought two pairs and paid the pricely sum of £90 at the start of this school year (September 2013).. both are now not fit for purpose. I am not sure why are they being allowed to hustle people out of their money like this? where is the trading standards officers? Clarks should be ashamed of themselves for selling this rubbish to people!! Please do not attempt to post a run of the mill polite reply... Fact is your shoes are rubbish!!! P.s. We have lots and lots of friends they will all hear about this......... Feedback from Clarks: We’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. • 3 stars out of 5**Formal Wear**

These shoes were bought for weekly church use and scouts. Having read the reviews, by other parents, we have decided not to rotate these shoes round and make them school shoes. Instead have ordered more Raptor Jnr. However, eventually he will outgrow this range and we have our doubts regarding durability for boys with feet sizes larger than a 2!

  • 1 stars out of 5 3 months wear acceptable according to Clarks staff

My son had the shoes from September to December, when they started to let in water and the sole started to came off. I returned them to John Lewis who refunded me as a good will (as this is were I purchased them from). As they seemed to think 3 months wear was acceptable. I then went to Clarks to buy a different style of shoe. Very cross I will not be getting school shoes from clarks after many years very disappointed. Feedback from Clarks: We are very proud of the quality of our products and to ensure this all our new designs and materials are tested before they go on sale.  If you are disappointed with any of our products please return to a store with your receipt so a member of staff can investigate.

    KAREN from upminster

These shoes have lasted 3 months and have holes in the sole and obviously leak. Certainly not worth the money, unlike most of the other school shoes I have bought previously in clarks.

My son had these shoes a couple of years ago and they lasted really well. We went back and got the same shoe design and hope they last just as long. As a parent they are good value for money.
