  • 5 stars out of 5Why not make larger sizes in this shoe.

    Samantha, manchester

So my sons have been wearing this shoe from being very small. Every year the same thing we go shopping and they choose this shoe. They get to high school and are bigger and they aren't happy with the alternatives that Clarks provide for the older boys. My eldest boy is 13 and wears a 6.5 shoe and was disappointed that he couldn't wear what he always had. My younger son is hoping that his feet will stay smaller! It's a good all round shoe. Not like other shoes which have stitching around the upper so that the minute they kick a football the stitching wears away and ruins the shoe. Please consider expanding this shoe to larger sizes - my boys can't be the only ones who prefer this style. They're ideal for boys - no laces to faff with, you can polish them up nicely, they last and most important they're comfortable to wear. Would someone at Clarks at least consider it?

  • 5 stars out of 5Why not bigger sizes?

Actually this review is not necessary because Clarks have decided not to carry on this smart sensible shoe that actually looks like a proper shoe! Surely the demand is there! Some people don't send like to send their children to school in shoes that resemble trainers, so these were great. Now they have discontinued them. A great pity.i went to get a bigger size of these for my son, and they are no longer available now. Feedback from Clarks: Thank you for leaving a review; we are really pleased that you like Deaton. The good news is that Deaton Junior will still be around next year in 2014. It will be available in sizes 13-4 on the Clarks Website and in larger retail stores.

    mary, glasgow

Loved these shoes!!! My son wore these for all of primary one and I was so disappointed when I realised he couldn't have them for P2 as they no longer come in an "e" width. He is on his second pair of Clarks school shoes four months in and they are not going to last much longer. Have Clarks changed supplier? Both my sons have worn Clarks since walking but it's startrite for us from now on! Feedback from Clarks: Thanks for leaving a review; we’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. We value all our customer feedback so thank you for your comments which have been fed back to our team.

    SARA from london

Wonderful looking shoes extremely smart appearance. My son has had these shoes for two weeks they where fitted instore. They are rather scuffed already and more seriously he has a blister, the shoes are also rubbing on his little toes and he has dark patches appearing on several places on his feet. I have always bought Clarks for my children and have never had this problem before I am usually very pleased with quality of shoes and fitting but on this occassion I am a very unhappy customer. Feedback from Clarks: Thank you for getting in touch. We do thoroughly test all our products before they go on sale, so the issue you describe seems unusual. Please return to one of our stores with proof of purchase so the manager can look into it for you. We will happily refund or replace any items deemed as faulty.

    Charlotte from sidmouth

We've been buying this model of shoe for over 4 years - they are smart and polish up well every time. The best feature of this shoe by far is that there are no unecessary seems to split as a result of scuffing or kicking footballs. Please continue this line - my sons feet grow out of them before the shoe deteriates!

  • 5 stars out of 5Smart school shoe

    caroline from northampton

I would recommend this shoe. My son is now 10 and has had the same style since he started school at 4. They are smart and sturdy. The heel cup is firm and shoe supporting unlike many other trainer-style shoes on the market. My son uses orthotic soles inside them and they still give plenty of room for his toes without squashing. Clarks - please consider making them in sizes bigger than junior 3 as I think they are a great, hardwearing shoe.

  • 2 stars out of 5Smart but not hardwearing.

    Jackie from london

I bought these shoes in September for my 6 y/o son because I thought they looked like smart school shoes rather than the more 'trainer-y' type. They DO look very smart on. They're unfortunately not hardwearing though. The ones I got him in September had worn out heels (you know where the 4 little square holes start to show through) by December. That's less than 12 weeks' wear. For £36 I don't think that's acceptable. I have to admit that I simply bought him another pair, mainly because I'm too busy to research around for a decent shoe - I will eventually get around to it though because buying him a new pair of shoes every 10 weeks, seems over-extravagant to me. For that reason I cannot recommend these shoes. Feedback from Clarks: We are very proud of the quality of our products and to ensure this all our new designs and materials are tested before they go on sale.  If you are disappointed with any of our products please return to a store with your receipt so a member of staff can investigate.

  • 3 stars out of 5Scruff easily

I bought these shoes for my 3 year old son to wear to school. They look really smart and my son loves them but the only problem is that they scruff very easily. Feedback from Clarks: Thank you for getting in touch. It’s difficult to know why some children’s shoes scuff more readily than others, however, we all use our feet in different ways and this will have an impact in the type of wear they receive. We do recommend shoe care items that help reduce the appearance of scuffs and scrapes. If you go into one of our stores, they will be more than happy to advise you on our products that should help.

When I read some of the reviews on these shoes it nearly put me off. But for the fact that I liked them so much, I would not have ordered them. I am not going to say that they don't have any scuffs, but nothing that doesn't polish out. We are talking boy's shoes here and boy's have a tendency to scuff their shoes! They look great on and my son says that they are fine (praise indeed from a nine year old ! )

  • 1 stars out of 5poor, dont buy

We brought these eight weeks ago and they are so scuffed it is appauling. Today he has come home from school with a hole in the toe.We all spend loads of money on Clarks shoes and I dont think we are being unrealistic to expect boys shoes to last.Evidentally the person who designs and manufactures boys shoes has no understanding of children and the normal activities of a average child. Come on Clarks get your act together-with so many similar complaints about the shoe does it not suggest to you that there is a problem?. I am taking mine back to the local Clarks shop tomorrow and look forward to their response.! Feedback from Clarks: Thanks for leaving a review; we’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. • 1 stars out of 5Poor replacement for Morecambe design

Our son had Morecambes for school for the past 2 years. We were told these were discontinued and Deatons replaced them so bought a pair for September. They've already worn through at the heel and look terrible, they haven't worn anything like as well as the 'old' model - peeling, hole in heel, awful scuffing that doesn't look good whatever we do. I expect a pair of shoes to last longer than 5 months for £34, no idea where my receipt is because I didn't think to keep it having been so happy with what I thought were the same shoes in the past. Very disappointed. Feedback from Clarks: We’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. We do thoroughly test all our products before they go on sale, so the issue you describe seems unusual. Leena, loughborough

This is an excellent school shoe - hard wearing, smart and easy to maintain, but sadly no longer available I my son's size. My son is autistic and severely learning disabled and will not wear lace ups, please Clarks help us parents with such kids to have at least one shoe style with Velcro straps up to size 9 (adult). My son is now size 6G (age 13 & growing fast!) and I have had to opt for the poorly rated Air Surrey style instead. We are prepared to pay for a good quality shoe! Having said that all your shop staff in both Nottingham stores were marvellous and very sympathetic. I would like to thank Rebecca at the Long Row store & Debbie in your Wheelergate store in particular. Like other reviewers I have been buying these shoes for my Son for years. How disappointed I was to read that they are not available! They are smarter than the trainers style and keep looking great for many months. Please please Clarks, as a loyal customer with two school children, please bring back the Deaton Jnr! Feedback from Clarks: Availability of styles and sizes works on a supply and demand basis; however we do try and offer something to suit all of our customers. Jeremy from christchurch

My son has had several pairs of the almost identical shoes and they were excellent, however, these have now been replaced by these and haven't faired well. I'm not worried about the scuffing (he does play football) because they can easily be polished but the usual Clarks quality is lacking. The leather has streched so much the velcro on the straps doesn't attach properly, the soles have worn through and bits have fallen off round the ankle. Please, please bring back old version. Feedback from Clarks: We’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. Please return to one of our stores with proof of purchase so the manager can look into it for you. Thought it was just me always had morcame before for the whole school year but the deatons peeled almost straight away. I have to get them again for this year as they are the only ones that are narrow enough and high enough on the ankle to fit my sons feet but this year at the first sign of peeling they are going straight back. I wonder how many pairs I will go go through.

These are a nice looking sturdy school shoes. My 6 year old son says they are comfy. The shop advisor reccomended these over the other pair we were looking at because my son is a scuffer!! I prefer this type of shoe to the trainer type school shoes as I think they look smarter. We brought and paid for them in store but the exact size we needed were out of stock so we had them delivered to our house within the next few days which was a great service.

I have purchased these shoes for my son to attend a wedding with the view to him wearing them for school afterwards. I chose these as most of the boys shoes looked more like trainers but we wanted something smarter. They do look very smart on and my son says that they feel very comfortable. I ordered them from Clarks store in Poole and had them delivered to my home. The service I received in store from Debbie and Jane was excellent. They were extremely courteous and nothing was too much trouble for them. I will definitely be returning there.

    Victoria, bristol

I bought these for my 7yr old for school and they are lovely. Haven't had much chance to test the wear, but they look & feel sturdy and he's not hard on shoes, so i'm hoping they will stand the test of time. Will also be suitable for my son to wear to an upcoming wedding as they look so smart. Wanted to buy these for my 4yr old who is starting school this week, but he is an E fit and they aren't available in that width. Infact, there is very little choice for E fit, especially if you are looking for plain black.

    Dianne, glasgow

I ordered these last year for my then 8 year old and they lasted nearly all term only giving up in May which is a record for my son's school shoes. I have ordered them again this year for him and hope they last just as long. They are sturdy, but still comfortable and brush up well with a bit of polish. Clarks shoes are always that bit more expensive, but well worth the money in this case.

These shoes are the best shoes around. I have been buying these for 6 years and they are very robust and extremely comfortable ( so the children tell me) and polish up beautifully and very easily. The boys do not want any other shoes, please continue to do in larger sizes. At the moment all the larger sizes are out of stock, does this show a demand for this type of shoe. As another customer has said, some parents before a proper looking shoe and not the type that looks like a trainer.

  • 1 stars out of 5Heel worn right through within 2 months

    Ian from edinburgh

I bought these for my son as wanted Clarks shoes for going back to school. Between the start of term and half-term my son has managed to wear right through the heel material. I have become increasingly disattisfied with Clarks shoes over the last few years and every year they wear out quicker. A local shoe shop assistant told me that Clarks changed manufacturer 2 years ago which probably coincides with the reduced quality of their shoes. This shoe shop no longer stocks Clarks shoes which I think speaks volumes. My son now has a pair of Start Rite shoes which will hopefully last until next summer. At the moment I certainly would not buy Clarks again and would not recommend them. Feedback from Clarks: We are very proud of the quality of our products and to ensure this all our new designs and materials are tested before they go on sale.  If you are disappointed with any of our products please return to a store with your receipt so a member of staff can investigate.

Wonderful shoes, highly recommended, my son wore his most of the school year and as they are leather upper they even polished up lovely for a couple of family events. They do not have that trainer-look like a lot of 'smart shoes.' He doesn't play football and doesn't over scuff his shoes so results may vary! We used an insole for extra comfort.

Completely and utterly disappointed with these shoes. My 4-year old son only worn these for a total of six hours and came home completely scuffed. I was expecting it to last longer than that. • 1 stars out of 5Disappointing - not the same as the 2009 version

    Jane

I have been extremely disappointed with these shoes. I bought a pair for each of my sons in August 2010, as those I bought for the previous school year (2009/2010) turned out to be fantastic - they looked practically identical. Obviously, something has changed, as these scuff very easily, even Schumagic has a hard job, and 5 minutes later they are "grey" again. Also, the leather has come off in places around the ankle "cuff", leaving white spots. My children are wearing them for exactly the same activities this year. Please bring back the 2009 version!! Feedback from Clarks: We’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. We do thoroughly test all our products before they go on sale, so the issue you describe seems unusual. The leather on the new shoes is much thinner - I am having to colour in the toes with marker pen before polishing. The trin around the ankle has come away. The inner sock is no longer made of leather. Please return to the previous standard. I rated the old style as a 5. Feedback from Clarks: We’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your purchase. Alan, bolton

In my opinion this is the best boys school shoe that Clarks have produced. They are sturdy and in a year when my sons feet haven't grown they have lasted the whole school year-through the yard football, rain, snow. the trainer types last only a term in some cases only a half term. I had decided the buy cheaper leather shoes elsewhere more often, rather than the Clarks trainer type shoes-SO GLAD YOU HAVE DECIDED TO REINTRODUCE THIS SHOE! I will definitely be buying it again-could just do with up to size 6 as some primary school boys are in this size before they leave.

I bought Deaton Junior as they were the only smart black shoes available in a 1H for my son to wear at my recent wedding, all the other black shoes in that size being trainer-like. I had hoped to buy the Corbett Junior shoes which my son previously found very comfortable in a smaller size , but found out they are not available in a 1H. Whilst my son has worn the Deaton Junior shoes before and found them comfortable, I have to admit that as another reviewer mentioned, the black leather coating did peel off above the velcro strap half way through him needing a size up, so I was reluctant to buy another pair. Overall I am happy with Clarks shoes and will continue to buy them simply as no other company seem to do width sizes which I think is so important for the health of childrens' feet.

And out of all I liked these were the cheapest! So I thought will give them a go! And I have to say these are by far the best shoes he has ever had, the heel I think stops them from wearing out the soles all others wear out so quickly, and when they scuff the polish up really well, I will continue to buy these ones when he out grows these ones! • 4 stars out of 5Always bought these shoes for our son.

Like so many other reviewers, we are hugely disappointed that you have decided to discontinue this shoe in larger sizes. We've bought this particular style since our son started school - he's now nearly 10. It's smart and polishes up well - our only comment would be that the sole could do with being a little harder wearing. We have problems finding a shoe that fits his feet well, and this one is perfect. Most schools stipulate smart shoes, rather than trainers, yet parents are confronted with an appallingly limited choice - I'm sure it all comes down to marketing, but a shame that Clarks has jumped on the 'trainer shoe' bandwagon. Feedback from Clarks: We were sorry to learn of your disappointment with our current range.  Availability of styles and sizes works on a supply and demand basis; however we do try and offer something to suit all of our customers. We will of course pass your comments on to our team for them to take into consideration when planning our range in the future.

These shoes are smart and very hard wearing. My son had these shoes last year for school too - I wish they did these in a girls shoe too as my daughter can go through a pair of shoes in weeks!

They are perfect for boys because there are no laces, this makes mornings easy, they're comfortable to wear, and absolutely great if it rains.
