How to use your Clarks Foot Measuring Gauge

Please read these instructions carefully before using the gauge.
To help you become confident using the Clarks Foot Measuring Gauge follow our step-by-step video and written instructions. Please take time to look at them before using the gauge and remember, measuring is only ever a guide. We also recommend that before you shop on line you take the time to take several practice measurements at a tune when your child is happy to cooperate. This will help ensure you obtain the most accurate measurement when you are ready to shop.

  • Make sure your child is wearing socks that fit well. Sit them on someone else's lap, facing you with their legs dangling. Kneel in front of your child. If your child is able to sit on a chair please ensure this has a firm seat and they can sit safely with their knees bent.
  • Hold the measuring gauge in your left hand with the toe slide and end nearest your body. rest your child's foot in the gauge with their heel in the heel rest - gently hold it in place with your left thumb.
  • Top Tip! Make sure the foot is straight in the gauge.
  • Keep the gauge parallel to the floor ensuring their knee and ankle stays at right angles throughout the measuring process.
  • With your right hand gently hold down their toes to prevent their toes from curling. Move the toe slide until it just touches the tip of the longest toe.
  • Make a note of the length measurement indicated by the black lines in the circular window. Don't forget to add any extra millimetres from the side scale to the number shown in the window.
  • Top Tip! Keep the foot flat when taking the measurements
  • The width tape will automatically be lined up at the correct part of the foot. Pull the tape gently until it is just resting on the foot. Do not pull the tape tight as this will give a narrow measurement.
  • Hold the tape end out parallel to the floor. Looking down and making sure you do not twist the gauge read off the number where the tape comes out under the tape carrier indicated buy the three black arrows. Make a note of the width measurement in mm.
  • Go online at www.clarks.co.uk/sizecalculator and enter the longest length measurement and widest width in the size calculator. This will tell you your child's Clarks shoe size. How to use the Junior Measuring Gauge

  • Make sure your child is standing upright and wearing socks which fit well. Place the measuring gauge flat on the floor and position their foot on it, with their heel in the heel rest. Ensure their weight is evenly distributed on both feet.
  • Hold down their toes and move the toe slide until it just touches the tip of their longest toe.
  • Top Tip! Make sure the foot is straight in the gauge.
  • Make a note of the length measurement indicated by the black lines in the circular window. Don't forget to add any extra millimetres from the side scale to the number in the window.
  • To take the width measurement the tape needs to be positioned across the widest part of the foot. Firstly, place a finger in the middle of your child's foot on the big toe side. Gently move it towards the toes. You will feel a slight bump which is the big toe joint.
  • Slide one end of the tape until it sits at the centre of the joint at the base of the big toe.
  • Slide the other end of the tape until it sits at the centre of the joint at the base of the little toe.The tape should now be angled to follow the line of the joints
  • Pull gently on the tape until it just rests around your child's foot then make a note of the width measurement in mm at the point indicated by the black arrow. Do not pull the tape tight as this will result in a narrow measurement. Repeat all actions for the other foot.
  • Go online at www.clarks.co.uk/sizecalculator and enter the longest length measurement and widest width in the size calculator. This will tell you your child's Clarks shoe size.
