Celebrating 190 years of Clarks - Petersburg Slipper

celebrating 190 years of Clarks

with a special edition of the slipper that began it all

Clarks Petersburg slipper

It began in 1825 in the English village of Street in Somerset. The young James Clark was working at the tannery owned by his brother, Cyrus, when he spotted a pile of sheepskin off-cuts.The remnants gave him an idea - slippers. But not just any old slippers.James' stroke of genius was to keep the wool on the leather and put it on the inside. In a flash of inspiration, he'd invented the sheepskin lined slipper. Named the Brown Petersburg,it proved to be enormously popular and within a few years, the brothers had set up a partnership - C&J Clark.190 years later, the name is known in all four corners of the globe, with Clarks selling over 100 pairs of shoes every minute of every day.And now, to celebrate the Brown Petersburg and its role in the forever unfolding story of Clarks, the brand has created a special edition replica of the original.
